John C Sinkovic Hall

"It is our proud honor to dedicate this hall to the loving memory of John C. Sinkovic."

John Charles Sinkovic, a.k.a. "11 Bears", age 91, of Toledo, Ohio died January 13, 2020 at Heartland of Perrysburg, Ohio.  He was born July 27th, 1928 at home in Toledo and attended St. Joseph and St. Francis grade schools and graduated from Woodward High School in 1948.  He served in the Marine Corps from 1951 - 1952 before his honorable discharge.  He was a member of St. Jude-Mariners, Life Member of Mudjaw Bowmen Archer Club since 1956, St. Jude Thaddeus Post 1675, Catholics War Vets, American Legion Post 335, Toledo member of Lou Diamond Detachment USMC Post, Toledo.  He was inducted into the Woodward High School Hall of Fame and was a member of Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral.

11 Bears

In 1943 at the age of fifteen John started his career at St. Vincent Hospital which lasted for 50 years until his retirement in 1993.  After retirement John volunteered for an additional 25 years at St. Vincent Hospital.  John enjoyed traveling, boating and hunting.  During any spare time John filled his calendar with numerous fishing trips, kayaking adventures and his commitment to introducing and educating his community in archery and bowhunting.  A true outdoors man.  John hunted Black Bear, Caribou, Elk and Whitetail.  His final hunter's scorecard reads 15 deer, 2 elk, 4 caribou and 11 black bears all taken with bow and arrow.

Chief Mudjaw

During his life membership at Mudjaw Bowmen John was known to wear an entire Indian Chief outfit at special club events and was called "Chief" by many.  John especially enjoyed introducing young people to the world of bowhunting as they listened to his patient grandfatherly advice.  John was always in a joyful mood no matter what happened and he enjoyed the role as camp cook without complaint.  John even cheated death on his hunting trips narrowly missing an out of control truck on black ice and being impaled by a small sapling stump in the field.  John at the age of 81 harvested his final bear and 11th bear in 2009 in Northern Ontario, Canada, witnesses say "By the time we arrived to help John he had already dressed out the bear and carried it back to the road, it was long past dark and we left as soon we heard the radio".  John would always tell people "Always a Pleasure to Meet a Fellow Bowhunter".
